A Summer School Holiday Activity
As the Christmas School Holidays drawn to a close, I thought I’d re-share this craft activity that used to consume a few hours for my children and I when they were young. If you’ve been digging into gardening and simultaneously wishing the school holidays away, why not try this wholesome little activity to pass 20 seconds of the 3687 hour long days?

The thing I'm finding most difficult about having a 4.5 and an almost 3 year old along with a baby is, wait for it… SLEEP! What a surprise.
While our night times are still punctuated by restless cries, wet bed and 5 am starts, It's the day time sleeps that are most tricky to juggle. Elke needs to go back to sleep shortly after she wakes while I like the older two to rest in the middle of the day. That means if everyone is to be well rested, we need to be home… ALL. THE. TIME.
As a result, I've been looking for ways to keep Zeph and Pip busy during Elke's sleep times. Activities need to be quiet so we've bee pottering around in the garden.
The other day we gathered as many edible florals as we could find and bought them inside to make 'flower ice'.
Into an ice tray we placed Lavender, Marigolds, Strawberries, Borage Blooms, Fennel Flowers and the tips of our coriander that's going to seed.
The kids made a point of taking in every sent and taste before we placed our ice tray back into the freezer and later than night they took frosty floral ice cubes into the bath to devour and watch them melt.
A very lovely, very simple little activity.
If you don't have a veg patch, there are many other edible flowers and weeds that you'd be able to find. Here's a list for your reference.
